Thank you so much for your ongoing support of Team BYC.
Team BYC sent 3 coaches to Orange Bowl 2023 to support ILCA6, ILCA4 and Opti Green. Most of the sailors arrived before Christmas to get two days of practice in before the regatta started. The regatta, which is one of the biggest youth events in the USA is held every year between Christmas and New Year.
The Opti Green completed 14 races. All 4 of our sailors were relatively new to Opti having participated in our Fall Program to gain experience before the regatta. Patrick Smith was the top placed in our team coming in 24th out of 76 sailors. It was a great experience and they are all looking to build on it.
The ILCA4 fleet had a tough week with cancelled racing, lack of jury and many many black flags. This fleet has taken a massive jump up in standard over the last year and its exciting to see the growing class around the USA. Siena Nichols was our top placed sailor in 19th places in the 56-boat fleet.
The ILCA6 team had a great week. Adam Turlof was our top placed sailor making it into the gold fleet for his first time ever. The ILCA6 fleet was one if the biggest with 91 sailors. Alex and Bella narrowly missed gold fleet and but placed at the top end of Silver fleet.
Orange Bowl is a staple event on the Team BYC calendar, and we intend to support a team every year. It’s an incredible opportunity for all classes to race in big fleets with international sailors.
Team BYC would like to thank MSSF for its ongoing support of the team
making it possible to send coaches to this event for all the classes we support.
