Girls Optimist Nationals is definitely one of the funnest regattas I have been to. All my girl friends were there and that made it even better. It was held in Hampton, VA at the Hampton YC this year. The conditions were great nice 12-15 knots all day & gusting 20. Throughout the day it was completely left favored, so of course I had to go and bang the right in in my first race. I quickly realized my mistake and in the next race went left, and got 19th. My scores were pretty good and we got 5 races in for the day, so I was able to drop my first race which was my worst. This was a qualifier for Team Trails (that will be held April 2024 at SFYC). I needed to finish in the top half in order to qualify and I did that and better. I finished in the top 25% 21 out of 92 girls! This was a huge goal achieved and takes all the pressure off for future USODA regattas, which is a big deal since last year I spent a lot of time chasing qualifying. Thank you for funding me for Girls Nationals and I hope to go again next year.
