To start I would like to thank you for your support of my team and I, on our campaign to win the 2021 Youth Match Race National Championship for the Rose Cup. Without your support we would not have been able to attend this event.

The regatta was held at the end of June in Rochester New York on Lake Ontario at the Rochester Yacht Club sailing the club’s fleet on Sonars. It was a fantastic three day regatta with a two day clinic beforehand with the world’s best developmental match racing coach Dave Perry. My team of Samantha Hemans (ABYC), Reade Decker (BCYC/LIYC) and Max Brennan (BYC) had a great event. We started with a double round robin racing all 9 other teams twice. At the end of the round robin we took 2nd place with only a handful of losses. We raced the 7th place team in an incredible quarterfinal series against Alex Fisaquella and team from Maine. After winning the quarter final series we were matched against fellow Balboa Yacht Club team and skipper David Wood for a spot in the Finals. We had an intense series with Penalties and races that were decided by a few feet at the finish. But, our team was able to win out in the end to secure our spot in the finals and a chance to win the Rose Cup. We were set to race San Diego’s Jack Egan who at this point had still not lost a race. He took the first race win handily in our first to three points series. But, following that first race my team and I took a moment to regroup and went on to win three straight in a row to clinch the final and win. This event was a fantastic opportunity and event for us and are very grateful for the support.
