Thank you so much for all your continued help and support of my sailing. I just finished my first C420 Regatta of the summer, C420 New Englands, in Stonington CT where my brother, Dylan, and I were able to finish in 9th place out of 62 boats. Here is a summary of my regatta experience.
After wrapping up racing in Rochester for the Rose Cup, I caught a flight across New York to Boston where we were picked up to drive into Stonington. My mother, father, and Dylan, had driven out east all the way from home in SoCal the day before, and I met up with them on the practice day before the regatta. I jumped in the boat with Dylan for a few laps to shake off the rust and then headed to the hotel to get some rest before racing the next day.
The first day of the regatta provided us with a nice medium light breeze which slowly died as the day went on. In this breeze, we were able to complete three races and attempted a fourth that was abandoned. As this was Dylan’s first ever major 420 regatta, each race was a great learning experience and we were able to constantly improve throughout the day. The second day was even lighter. We were able to compete one race before the wind shut down and we went into on the water postponement. After floating around for a little while, the wind finally filled in once again and we were able to complete two more races, in which Dylan and I were able to secure a third and sixth place finish, wrapping up the regatta with two top ten finishes.
Overall, this regatta was an amazing experience for Dylan and I. We were able to gain precious regatta experience for Dylan, and we are looking forward to continuing to improve and apply our new learnings as we travel across the east coast for the rest of the regattas. Thank you so much again for your support, and we can’t wait to see what we can do at North Americans next!
