Thank you for your support that helped me to go to the 2020 C420 Midwinters that was held in Jensen Beach, Florida. There were over 80 boats. I participated with my skipper Brooke Schmelz. The regatta is a three day event. The first two days of racing were the qualifying series then the last day was the medal series.

On our first day in Florida, we spent the morning fixing our boat for the first couple of hours, then went out to practice for about 2 hours with the rest of our group. We were lucky that the boat was already rigged and set up there. This is because I flew to Jensen Beach the weekend before to train with her at the venue. On the first day of racing, we were lucky to have 13 to 15 knots all day, normal Newport weather in the winter. The day didn’t begin well, but fortunately, Brooke and I got into a good groove with the boat and the shifts that we managed to get an 8th place and a 6th place. After racing, our amazing coaches Molly Lucas and Will Brown talked to us all and helped us prepare for the next day of racing.

The conditions of the medal series were very different from the qualifying series. The breeze was between 2 to 6 knots. These conditions were almost like the conditions we were training in the weekend before. The last day of the regatta was our best day overall. We got 12th and 8th place in the final two races in the gold fleet. Overall we finished the event 21st place in the gold fleet.

Thank you again for your help in allowing me attending this amazing regatta!
