Dear Grant Committee,
On behalf of the Mater Dei High School Sailing Team I wish to say thank you so much for your generous support of the team this year. We have a roster of 12 sailors with very diverse sailing experience and backgrounds. This year we were able to send sailors to each and every PCISA event, including all of the PCISA events and the So Cal regattas.
About 60% of our team is made up of sailors with previous sailing experience while the remainder are sailing this season for the very first time. Mater Dei is proud to have finished up the season tied for 5th in points out of 50 high school teams in the league, just 6 points out of 4th place. This accomplishment was made possible by the consistent performances of both our Silver and Gold fleet teams. The 2018-19 season was great under the direction of our Head Coach, Aubrey Mayer, who brings a wealth of sailing knowledge and competitive sailing expertise to us from Long Island Sound. We are thrilled with our progress and look forward to qualifying for the Nationals in the upcoming 2019-20 season. We are confident in our ability to overcome the many obstacles we face as a smaller team and are resolute in our commitment to represent our school with pride.
