Dear MSSF,
From July 15th-17th my crew, Sammy Pickell, and I sailed at San Diego Yacht Club in the 2014 C420 Nationals. After having a successful showing in Ida Lewis earlier this year, we decided to make the leap to a new caliber of sailing with C420 Nationals.
Not only did we have to sail in new and windier conditions, but we also had the opportunity to sail against a larger and more advanced fleet in this regatta. Some sailors we recognized from previous regattas, but many were new faces or just names we had heard from our peers.
With results ranging from 15th to our throw-out of 46th, Sammy and I just kept our heads up and tried to learn as much as we could from the event. We finished in 33rd out of 53 competitors and both of us were very happy with our result. Coming out of the event, we had two things to work on: being more aggressive on large starting lines and reach legs.
Overall, we really enjoyed sailing in this event San Diego and it was a very beneficial experience. I plan on participating in many C420 Nationals to come and I am very thankful to MSSF for their continuous support of all our adventures in sailing.
Sincerely,
Kerri Luttrell
