I am a Sabot A fleet sailor for the Balboa Yacht Club Sailing Team. I recently attended the Balboa Advanced Sabot Clinic or BASC which gave me the opportunity to sail against the best sabot racers in South Orange County. I had two Coaches that helped me learn a lot over the course of the clinic. I improved on my upwind sailing skills as well as honed my downwind sailing skills to the point where I always passed at least one boat downwind. Attending this clinic gave me the opportunity to observe the other sailors and see what worked for them. Then I would try what they were doing to see if it would also work for me. This gave me the little advantage I needed to beat them around the course. I really enjoyed how we sailed as competitors on the water but, when we got back on land we were all friends again and helped each other out with tuning their boats or changing up their strategies. I greatly appreciated the funding I received from MSSF. I absolutely love this clinic and hope to attend in the years to come.
