Luttrell-Ida2015-2Dear BYC MSSF,

Thank you so much for your support of my crew, Sammy, and I in this year’s Junior Women’s Doublehanded Championship for the Ida Lewis Trophy.

The regatta was held at Columbia Sailing Center on Lake Murray, South Carolina. This regatta was truly a learning experience seeing as Sammy and I had both never sailed on a lake before- let alone one with a surface temperature of 80 degrees. On the clinic days, we experienced a wide range of conditions. This included everything from no wind and hot sunshine to a summer squall with lightning and gusts of 20 knots. Going into the race day, Sammy and I had no idea what the conditions would be like and were both pleased to find that it was fewer than eight knots the entire day. We finished with a 3rd, 4th,  5th, and 9th on the first day of racing, putting us in third overall. The next day we had a bit of a dip in our results because of the wind and shifty conditions, which moved us back into 13th place. Although we were unhappy with our results the second race day, we were determined to accomplish our goal of placing in the top ten. With a fourth and a ninth on the final day of racing we were able to accomplish our goal, putting us in eighth for the regatta.

Overall, it was an amazing experience with great coaches and talented competitors. I cannot thank you enough for your support and look forward to attending this event next year.

Sincerely,
Kerri Luttrell
