Dear BYC Maritime Sciences and Seamanship Foundation,

Thank you for your support of me in the 2013 Junior Olympics. This regatta was my first big CFJ regatta as a skipper and I was really excited to participate. The regatta was held at Newport Harbor Yacht Club, which gave me the local advantage.

We towed up to Newport for our competitors meeting on Friday, July 12th. After a great day of sailing, all the competitors went over to NHYC for burgers. My personal favorite was the Mighty Melt burger. The conditions on the second day were difficult because it got rather windy and my crew and me are less than 200 lbs., but we held the boat down and finished every race. The chop on the third day was a little difficult for me to handle but I kept my goal of my 18th being my throw out. Although we did not win the regatta, we were one of the most consistent teams of the weekend. On Friday we were in 8th, Saturday 9th, and we finished out the regatta in 8th.

Overall it was a successful regatta and I had lots of fun. I learned lots of important skills and tricks from other sailors I had met at the regatta. Lastly, I hope to continue to sail this event for years to come and it is thanks to the BYC MSSF that I can do that.

Sincerely,

Kerri Luttrell
