Throughout the whole pandemic it has been seen as a time for some to slow down. For regattas, most were put on hold or cancelled. However, I was fortunate to continue practicing sailing. The I420 PCCS in November was the first Regatta I have participated in since the shut down in March. Up until this regatta I have spent my time training in the I420 with my skipper Sophia Devling.
This regatta can definitely be considered as a heavy weather regatta as the wind was above 15 knots throughout the races. My skipper and I were easily the smallest team participating but with the many hours spent preparing in wind we were able to stay at the front of the fleet. We struggled on the upwinds but were able to gain all the boats lost back on the downwinds. At this event we placed 4th out of 16 being the top finishing women’s team.
Thank you so much for helping me attend this regatta. Many lessons were learned with things that I am able to take away and apply to my future sailing.
