Dear Maritime Sciences and Seamanship Foundation,
Thank you so much for your generous donation to my skipper Grace Yakutis and I. Without your donations for Club 420 Midwinters, I would never have had the opportunity to go and travel and learn even more about sailing.
Over the course of the five days that I was in Florida, I crewed in a club 420 for my skipper Grace Yakutis. Gearing up to the regatta, Grace and I practiced countlessly and were on the water at least 3 times a week, or whenever the wind permitted us to sail. Come regatta time, we were able to meet countless sailors from all around the nation who helped us throughout the regatta. On the first day we arrived, we went out and practiced at the venue. Light and glassy, conditions didn’t seem all that well but thankfully, the next day, which was the first day of the regatta, was breezy and fun. The first day we were U-Flagged but we did not let that slow us down and pushed through it.
The next two days were filled with constant breeze and on the last day it reached its peak and was fairly windy. Within these days, we had some great races and although some of our finishes were not our best, Grace and I learned a ton.
This regatta helped to broaden my horizons about sailing and introduced to me a whole new aspect of sailing. The people that I met there were all incredible sailors and I had a chance to talk to them about what they did to prepare for this regatta. I hope to pass on the knowledge that I learned to my friends and fellow sailors. Thank you again for all your generosity and encouragement in this long, yet beneficial regatta.
Sincerely,
Madeline Bubb
