Dear MSSF,
I really appreciate your kindness and financial support in helping me compete in the C420 North American Championships at Rochester, New York. After a super long regatta of 2 practice days, 4 regatta days, and 15 races, we ended up finishing 10th out of 91 boats.

On the first practice day, we arrived on site midmorning, unloaded our boat from our trailer, and began setting everything up. After finishing settings, we headed out for a short practice on our own to get warmed up. The second practice day, we were one of the first teams to get out, so we had some private coaching with Outfit Sailing coach Lior for an hour before the reset of the
group came out. After perfecting our light wind speed and boathandling, we headed in to get rest for the long regatta ahead.

The first day of flight selection was a fairly light onshore breeze, but we still managed to get 4 races in. We started well, held, and hooked into left pressure almost every race, and started the regatta off with a 14, 7, 1, 6. The next day, the wind switched to an offshore breeze, and was still light, but again, we managed to get 4 more races off. This time, the wind was much shiftier, with big pressure coming down both the left and right sides of the course. We still stayed consistent, starting in the front row and keeping our options open, so we finished the second day with a 12, 2, 14 , 3. With those scores, we were top 10 overall and qualified for gold!

The third day of the regatta, and first in gold division, was onshore like the first day with a medium breeze. The left paid a lot, as Piper and Sophia, another team from SoCal, won every race by winning the left side. The pin side of the line was very biased all day, making starting quite difficult. We had good consistent starts for the most part, except for one, and we had to play catch up that race. So, we finished off the third day with a 23, 5, 12. It was another onshore breeze on the last day, with pouring rain and higher winds. Again, the line was very pin
favored, making it hard to start. We still managed well and stayed consistent, so going into the last race, we were 2 points out of 3rd place! Unfortunately, everything fell apart in the last race, and we weren’t able to stick with the top 5. We finished the day with a 12, 6, 8, 39.

All in all, this was an amazing experience for me, whether it be working with new coaches, trying new techniques, racing against a huge competitive fleet, or finishing well at my second major C420 event. Thank you again so much for your support. I couldn’t have done this without your help and I can’t wait to keep racing!
