Thank you so much for your generosity and the support of my trip to Stonington, Connecticut, where we competed in my first event of the summer: the C420 New Englands Championship. We finished 9th out of 62 boats, gaining lots of experience, learning a ton, and meeting new people.
Instead of flying out to the east coast, my mom, dad, and I all spent about a week driving from Newport Beach, CA, all the way to Stonington, CT. We had one practice the day before the regatta, and even though it was drifter conditions, it was still good to stretch my legs out after the long drive and get back in sync with my brother, Nathan. After some quick laps to perfect our boat handling and make sure everything on the boat worked, we headed back to the hotel to get some rest before the regatta.
On the first day, we started with a nice 6-8 knots, which slowly died as the day went on, and we completed three races. We had a rough start, but got ourselves back together and continued
improving, finishing off the day with a 7. We were top 10 in the fourth race, but unfortunately, the wind shut down, and the race committee called it a day. The second day started off lighter than the first, and we were only able to get one race off before the wind shut down. However, we still had plenty of time left and we waited for the wind to fill again. We then got two more races off, completing the day with a 14, 3, 6.
This, being my first ever major C420 regatta, was a huge experience for me, and competing against a relatively big fleet helped me learn a lot. I’m looking forward to the next few regattas, and thank you again for your continued support! I really appreciate everything you are doing to allow me to compete out here on the east coast!
Sincerely,
Dylan Sih
