Thank you again so much for all your continued support of my sailing, I really appreciate it! I have just completed my third C420 event of the summer, C420 Nationals, with Dylan, were we placed 20th out of 132 boats. Here is a summary of our experience in Brant Beach, NJ.

Just after wrapping up our previous event in Rochester, NY, we took one travel day over to Brant Beach, NJ, for the C420 nationals, and then went right into our practice day before the event began. On our practice day, we found when rigging that our mast was actually bent inversely, and after much scrambling we were able to get the mast swapped and head out on the water to join our coach Udi Gal and the rest of our team to practice before racing started the next day.

The first day of the regatta we had decent breeze after an on land postponement, and were able to get three races off in our qualification fleets. Unfortunately, the next day was not as lucky. Beginning again with an on land postponement, the fleet waited anxiously for the breeze to fill in, as thunderstorms were forecasted for the afternoon. Finally making it out on the water, the race committee hurried to start off our races before the storm hit, but unfortunately we were not quite fast enough. With thunder rolling through in the middle of race 1, the races were abandoned and as the thunderhead moved closer and onto the racecourse, everyone was moving as fast as they could to help get all the boats and people safely back on shore. Nine boats were abandoned on the water and the sailors were sped in by motorboat to stay safe from lightning, and once on land, a mandatory safety check in was initiated by the organizing authority. Luckily no one was hurt that day, although unfortunately no races were able to be sailed. On the final day, since there were not enough races to separate the fleet into gold and silver, we were kept in our flights from the previous day. After bumping up the harbor start by 30 minutes to 9:00 in an attempt to get more races off, we unfortunately were once again met with no breeze, and enjoyed an on the water postponement until around 2:00. Finally, with enough breeze to get one race off before the cutoff, the regatta was concluded with a total of four races sailed.

Unfortunately, Dylan and I did not do as well as we had hoped this regatta, and were unable to improve much after the first day of racing as there was only one other race sailed after that day. However, this regatta was still a great learning experience and we are ready to take everything we have learned so far from this summer trip and give it our all at the final event, South Shore in Long Island. Thank you again so much for making this trip possible for Dylan and I and we really appreciate all your support!
