Dear Maritime Sciences and Seamanship Foundation,
Thank you so much for the opportunity to go to the CISA Clinic this year and represent BYC in the CFJ class. This clinic taught me so many new “tricks” that overall enhanced my FJ sailing. On the first day of the four day clinic, there was a steady breeze that picked up as the day went on. Our goal for the first day was boat handling. In the evening we had a great meeting that featured wind surfing and kite boarding. On the second day the weather was not in our favor. For the morning the CFJ class decided to stay inside the bay at ABYC and still my skipper Jeff Tolan and I capsized twice along with every other FJ out there. In the afternoon we decided it would be better to take three FJs out and have the rest of us in the coach boat so we could switch in and out. With the huge swells it was a hard upwind, but finally once we got far past the breakwater we headed downwind. The third day of the clinic was much more enjoyable because we were not in survival mode. On this day we focused on tactics and practiced racing in the afternoon preparing for the regatta the next day. Finally the day we had all worked for arrived and of course there was hardly any wind. But as the day progressed more breeze came up. This clinic showed immense improvement in my CFJ sailing and I would like to thank you for the great four days that Jeff and I got to experience.
